# Update a user profile

> Change your display name, time zone, and password, or update another user's profile as an administrator.

Change your own display name, time zone, and password, or, as an administrator, update another
user's display name or SIP extension.

## Before you start

* To update someone else's profile, you need an **admin** role. Any user can update their own.
* Email address can't be changed by you or an administrator once the account is created.

## Update your own profile

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your settings">
    Select your name, then **Settings**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update your details">
    In **Profile & timezone**, change your **Display name** or **Timezone**. Your timezone
    controls how timestamps render for you across the app — it doesn't change any campaign's
    calling hours, which run in each lead's own time zone. See
    [Calling hours](/compliance/calling-hours).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Change your password, if needed">
    In **Password & security**, enter your current password and a new one. You'll need your
    current password to confirm the change.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Update another user's profile (administrators)

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Users">
    In the left navigation, select **Users**, then select the person.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Update their details">
    Change their **Display name** or **SIP extension**. To change their role or capabilities,
    see [Roles and permissions](/account/roles-and-permissions) instead.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save">
    Select **Save**.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Verify

<Check>
  The updated display name appears immediately in the top navigation (for your own profile) or
  in the **Users** list (for another user's).
</Check>

## Common problems

* **You need to change someone's email.** Not supported today — the account must be recreated.
* **A user forgot their password.** There's no self-service reset. An administrator resets it
  from **Users** — see [Sign in](/account/sign-in#common-problems).
